Meteor Gamma
Meteor Gamma by Marius Ritiu is a striking wall sculpture that evokes the elemental drama of a celestial body suspended between cosmic motion and geological permanence. Hand forged from copper, the work presents a richly textured surface that appears both ancient and otherworldly, bearing the expressive marks of the artist's hammer alongside layers of dark patina and luminous metallic highlights. Its cratered and fractured topography recalls the scarred surface of a meteorite, suggesting immense forces of impact, transformation, and the passage of deep time. As light moves across the sculpture, subtle variations in texture and colour animate its surface, revealing flashes of warm copper beneath darker oxidised tones. Balancing abstraction with references to the natural and astronomical worlds, Meteor Gamma invites contemplation of the vast scales of time and space while celebrating the physicality of hand-forged metal. Through this work, Ritiu transforms copper into a powerful sculptural landscape that bridges the terrestrial and the cosmic, embodying both the enduring resilience of the material and the artist's deeply intuitive approach to form.
