Constellation
Constellation is a functional contemporary sculpture by Antwerp-based artist Marius Ritiu, crafted in hand-hammered copper and conceived as collectible functional art that dissolves the boundary between sculpture and design. Drawing inspiration from the celestial patterns that have guided humanity for millennia, the work transforms the language of the night sky into a tactile, domestic presence. Its composition evokes the invisible geometries that connect stars across vast distances, suggesting that even seemingly isolated forms belong to larger systems of order and meaning. Every hammer mark remains visible, preserving the physical dialogue between artist and material, while the copper's luminous surface changes over time, acquiring a patina that records its own passage through time. Rather than treating function as secondary to aesthetics, Constellation proposes that everyday objects can become sites of contemplation, inviting moments of reflection within daily life. The work embodies Ritiu's ongoing exploration of cosmology, material transformation and craftsmanship, creating an object that is at once useful, sculptural and quietly evocative of our enduring relationship with the universe.
